Dow Consumer Solutions R&D has an exciting opportunity for a Research Scientist/Associate Research Scientist in NA Engineered Materials Product Development located in Auburn, MI. NA Engineered Materials Product Development teams partner cross functionally to develop new materials to execute the market technology strategy roadmaps for Consumer Solution's Mobility & Transportation and Consumer & Electronics market segments. EMPD focuses on the development of fully formulated silicone and hybrid solutions supporting electronics assembly and secondary optics applications including conductive composite, adhesive, protective, and optical materials. EMPD project teams engage strongly with lead customers in dynamic application areas. Product development researchers also work closely with TS&D and PR&D counterparts across the commercialization process.
The candidate will apply material science and formulation expertise, practical problem-solving skills, and the scientific method to develop new formulated silicone materials to meet the needs of Mobility & Transportation and Consumer & Electronics customers. The candidate will support Engineered Materials to strongly contribute to future Consumer Solutions growth by combining technical excellence with practical business acumen. Successful candidates will have a bias for action and clear examples of driving research projects to success.
Define and conduct research across multiple project areas using the Scientific Method
Develop and execute formulation experimental plan utilizing statistical design
Partner with marketing, technology platform leaders, and TS&D to understand customer's needs and clearly articulate critical factors for success
Effectively communicate technical data to a variety of audiences including business leadership
Generation of intellectual property to protect novel, value added products
Model best safety practices, habits, and behaviors in line with Dow' global safety standards
Foster an inclusive work environment and collaborative innovation culture
Ability to work independently and collaborate to drive projects to completion
Ability to design studies, carry out experiments, interpret data, etc. to meet project milestones and customer needs
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to distill complex ideas and proactively communicate results and progress to diverse stakeholders
Ability to partner with diverse team members and stakeholders
A minimum of a Bachelor's degree is required in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, Polymer Science, or a related discipline.
Ph.D. in chemistry, chemical engineering, material science or related field
Six Sigma/Design of Experiments Training
Experience in the development of formulated silicone materials
Project Leadership experience
