Job Summary

Department-Specific Responsibilities:

  • Directs all infrastructure-related operations including hardware, software, server administration, and network initiatives.
  • Directs and manages all personnel in the KSBIT infrastructure area.
  • Advises the leadership on the infrastructure management policies and trends, and the adoption of new technologies.
  • Directs, implements, and coordinates training programs for all staff in the infrastructure team.
  • Manages hardware life cycle for workstations, servers, and network infrastructure.
  • Oversees the design, implement, maintain the IT infrastructure that enables the organization to achieve its goals and objectives.
  • Manages IT infrastructure operations, including workstations, servers, software, and network assets. Determine team-wide quality standards, best practices, and standard operating procedures.
  • Directs and manages a team of six IT professionals and their work activities. Sets goals, assigns work, creates Key Performance Indicators (KPI), and monitors accuracy and completeness.
  • Plans and conducts professional development activities and performance appraisals.
  • Meets with faculty and staff to determine infrastructure needs in support of teaching and/or research.
  • Participates in organization-wide IT planning activities. Assists the leadership in the development of long-term IT infrastructure strategy to support the research, administrative, and academic missions.
  • Works with UITS to coordinate the expansion & deployment of network infrastructure (new & upgrades) in the Kelley school.
  • Consults with UITS and third-party vendors and contractors to meet the organizational goals and address ongoing initiatives.
  • Develops, implements, and coordinates business continuity planning and change management process.
  • Manages day-to-day security for infrastructure and assists Kelley Security Officer in handling incidents.
  • Researches, evaluates, and advises the leadership on new and emerging technologies as they become available.
General Responsibilities:
  • Provides highest level of operational leadership and coordination of assigned staff members to define network operations methodologies and standards; provides direction and guidance on high priority network operations projects/initiatives.
  • Establishes short-term business plans and long-term operational objectives, including managing project timelines/deliverables and developing resource plans for multi-project/multi-phase network operations initiatives.
  • Conducts a variety of personnel actions to include, but not limited to hiring, promotion, performance management, and dismissal.
  • Manages high level assignments and allocation of technical resources, including negotiating and coordinating initiatives that involve staff in other departments/areas/teams.
  • Makes budgetary recommendations/proposals based on resource needs and ensures cost containment.
  • Works collaboratively with other network operations leaders in recommending standards, best practices, and related policies/procedures.
  • Conducts research on emerging technologies, services, protocols/processes, and/or standards in support of network operations efforts; responsible for the implementation of new protocols/procedures to address business needs.
  • Prepares management reports and summaries for senior administration, executive, steering and advisory committees; acts as advisor to executive committees; serves on various university committees and task forces related to network operations.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required
  • Bachelor's degree (preferably in computer science or a related field).
WORK EXPERIENCE

Required
  • 4 years of network operations or related experience.
  • 1 year of management experience.
Preferred
  • 5 years of work experience in hardware, networking, and server administration.
Combinations of related education and experience may be considered.

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus.
