ResponsibilitiesThe Director is responsible for creation and deployment of training to ensure minimization of risk associated with faculty and staff outside activities, outside employment, and relationships with outside entities, both foreign and domestic. Participates in drafting and updating COI policies and procedures and is responsible for keeping up with regulatory changes and best practices. Provides technical guidance to university personnel regarding compliance with the Code of Ethics for Public Officers and Employees.
Works closely with the Office of Research Compliance Programs to ensure continuity of operations and provide backup for research-related COI functions. Reviews and manages research-related conflict of interest disclosures and will work to develop and implement an institutional conflict of interest program in collaboration with the Office of Research Compliance Programs.
The Director serves as a compliance education resource for subject matter experts across campus who require support in implementing compliance training and education programs. This includes creating or assisting in creating compliance education programs, policy development and review, and other related compliance education activities. May conduct investigations of allegations of unethical or noncompliant conduct and serves as a point of contact for the Office of Human Resources in related personnel matters.
In addition to serving as a specialist in the areas listed above, the Director is expected to serve as a higher education compliance generalist, providing support as needed in all areas of higher education compliance. This includes coordinating or assisting in the development and implementation of training programs, serving as a communications point-person for stakeholders in a complex compliance environment, and other projects as assigned.
A Bachelor's degree and a minimum of six years of experience with three years specifically in compliance, legal affairs, or a related field. (Note: Higher education can substitute for experience at the equivalent rate.)
