Assistant Professor, Sensory and Ingestive Behavior - Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition

The Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition (FSHN) at the University of Illinois seeks an expert in the chemical senses to fill a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level. Candidates working on all approaches, from molecular and cellular to behavioral (both human and animal models) are welcome to apply. The successful candidate will be well positioned to collaborate with scientists across campus.

Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will establish an independent externally funded research program focused on smell, taste, or chemesthesis, and their impact on food choice, appetite regulation, or metabolism, and teach in related areas at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The focus will be on genetic, developmental, neural or environmental factors that through sensory signaling regulate appetite or health-related outcomes. The successful candidate will contribute to the FSHN Department's core areas of biochemical nutrition and integrated food, nutrition, and health.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have an earned doctorate in a discipline related to nutrition, physiology, or food science and postdoctoral experience. Evidence of professional promise and excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required.

Preferred Qualifications:
Postdoctoral training in chemosensory sciences, neurosciences, ingestive behavior, cell-based functional assays, machine learning for sensory prediction, or other related disciplines, ability to secure extramural funding, a strong publication record, ability to mentor students, and engagement in professional associations are desired.

Salary:
Competitive salary with benefits and start-up package are commensurate with qualifications.

Appointment Details:
100% full-time 9-month (academic year) tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level

August 16, 2023; University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign.
