Position Information: Description

The mission of the College of Nursing & Professional Disciplines (CNPD) is to prepare future leaders, to advance human well-being and improve quality of life for diverse populations, with an emphasis on rural communities in North Dakota, the region and beyond, through the provision of high-quality innovative interprofessional education, research and service. The CNPD is comprised of three departments: Nursing, Nutrition & Dietetics, and Social Work.

The department of Nutrition & Dietetics has approximately 120 students and offers two undergraduate programs in dietetics and human nutrition, a master of science program and a minor in nutrition program.

The department of Nutrition & Dietetics is seeking a full-time (9-month), tenure-track faculty member with nutrition research experience relevant to human health or problems unique to rural communities to carry out a robust research agenda, teach and advise graduate students, and contribute to the mission of the department, university and profession through service activities. This position supports undergraduate- and graduate-level teaching and mentors professional and graduate students in coursework, independent study and thesis projects. Activities include research, grant writing, classroom instruction (campus-based and online), advisement and service. This position requires an on-campus presence.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • 50% Teaching
  • 40% Research
  • 10% Service

The successful candidate will be required to maintain an active research program to advance human nutritional health and well-being or address the unique nutritional health and social problems found in rural communities; secure external research grants/contracts; meet high standards for teaching and mentoring students; and participate in Department, College, and/or University service. This person will work effectively with other faculty to address health-related challenges facing North Dakota through collaborative research and interdisciplinary teaching experiences. The Nutrition & Dietetics department has abundant research collaboration opportunities/requests. Securing extramural funding of at least $7500 per year would be required beginning year 5 of the appointment. 

Minimum Requirements
  • Doctorate in Human Nutrition, Dietetics or related field; at least one graduate degree in Human Nutrition or Dietetics. In lieu of doctorate, ABD candidates will be considered with expected completion by 8/15/2023.
  • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) or Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS)
  • Evidence of scholarly productivity
  • Postsecondary teaching experience
  • Successful completion of criminal history records check.

  • Postdoctoral fellowship training
  • Secured external funding
  • Online teaching experience
  • Health and Wellness Coaching certification (NBC-HWC)
Minimum Hiring Salary

$60,000+ Commensurate with experience

Work Schedule/Start Date

Start date is August 1, 2023 (negotiable). The work schedule will vary depending on the schedule of classes taught and maintained office hours.
