Job Description Summary
Assistant Privacy Officer
The Assistant Privacy Officer supports the Chief University Privacy Officer and Institutional Compliance Officer in furthering Penn's commitment to protecting the privacy of personal information of students, faculty, staff, research subjects and other members of the Penn community.
The Assistant Privacy Officer participates in and supports ongoing activities related to the development, implementation, maintenance of the organization's privacy program in order to ensure the protection of personal information, financial information, educational records, protected health information and other sensitive information in accordance with federal and state laws, global privacy laws where applicable, and Penn's information privacy policies and practices.
The University Privacy Program is carried out by the Office of Audit, Compliance and Privacy. The program focuses on operationalizing the following initiatives: (1) privacy education, training and awareness; (2) risk management and mitigation; (3) privacy and other compliance assessments; (4) advising, oversight and monitoring; and (5) incident response.
Job Description
Assistant Privacy Officer
The qualified candidates will have a J.D. or Master's Degree in Law, Privacy, Compliance or similar, with 3 to 5 years of experience. CIPP preferred.
Responsibilities and Duties will include:
Serves as resource to the EVP, Provost and their respective teams including, but not limited to: Information Systems & Computing, IT for schools and Centers and other University personnel working on areas with significant privacy components.
Investigates and takes action on complaints and investigations relating to privacy practices and policies as well as other compliance related matters in coordination and collaboration with other similar functions and, when necessary, legal counsel.
Performs initial and periodic information privacy risk assessments and conducts related ongoing compliance monitoring activities in coordination with the entity's other compliance and operational assessment functions.
Initiates, facilitates, and promotes activities to foster information privacy and compliance awareness within the organization and related entities.
Administers the Security and Privacy Impact Assessment (SPIA) program and tools.
Participates in the review, and provides advise on third party data sharing agreements and other third party activities to address privacy-related matters and/or concerns.
Ensures policies are regularly reviewed and updated in keeping with changes in legal requirements and University operations.
Maintains current knowledge of applicable federal and state privacy and other compliance related laws and accreditation standards. Monitors advancements in information privacy and compliance related technologies to ensure organizational adaptation and compliance.
