The College of Arts and Sciences is seeking an Assistant Director for Internships and External Partnerships to join the team as part of its comprehensive effort to prepare students for academic and postgraduate success. Reporting to the Director of Strategic Initiatives, s/he will enhance, facilitate, and promote meaningful internships and enriching career-related experiences through the Arts & Sciences Program for Internship Experiences (ASPIRE) program. The successful candidate will collaborate with students, faculty, employers, and other stakeholders to create a robust and diverse range of internship programs and external partnerships that support our mission and the career development of our students.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Administer all aspects of the ASPIRE program including oversight of the academic internship program including, developing internship opportunities, cultivating and maintaining relationships with community/employer partners, alumni and fostering internship opportunities in diverse fields that match the interests and skillsets of our students

• Manage ASPIRE's logistical aspects, including coordinating with employers, students, and academic departments / faculty to ensure a smooth internship experience.

Establish and nurture relationships with external organizations, alumni, corporations, and community partners to create and maintain internship opportunities.

Develop and implement strategies to engage employers and promote our organization as a preferred destination for talented interns.

Act as a liaison between our organization and external partners, ensuring a productive and mutually beneficial partnership.

• Design and implement events, programs, and workshops to create opportunities for Arts & Sciences students to connect with employers and educate students about careers and career pathways

• Responsible for hiring, training and supervision of staff and students; including the development and evaluation of annual goals and objectives, and conduct annual performance reviews.

• Collect data and feedback from students, employers, and faculty to assess the effectiveness of internship programs and external partnerships.

• Prepare and present regular reports to the College leadership, highlighting program outcomes, trends, and opportunities for improvement.

• Represent ASPIRE at relevant career fairs, conferences, and industry events to increase visibility and engagement with potential partners.

• Connect students with relevant internship opportunities that align with their academic and professional aspirations.

• In coordination with the College's Development Office, build and maintain strong relationships with industry partners, companies, alumni, parents, and organizations to develop a network of internship opportunities.

• Collaborate with various faculty, academic departments, industry partners, and employers to ensure the successful placement and development of interns.

• Assist students in preparing for the internship application process, including resume and cover letter reviews, interview coaching, and professional etiquette guidance.

• Monitor interns' progress during their placements and offer support as needed to ensure a successful experience; collect feedback from interns and employers to assess the effectiveness of the internship program and identify areas for improvement.

• Maintain current knowledge of recruiting trends, industry characteristics, job specifications and requirements, industry vocabulary, and industry/employer culture

• Ensure internal control oversight and compliance with laws and regulations, safeguarding of assets, compliance with University policies and procedures, reliability of internal and external reporting, and efficiency and effectiveness of operations

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum 4 years of relevant work experience. Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.
  • Ability to travel and work some evenings and weekends.
  • Previous experience in career counseling, student services, human resources, or a related field is highly desirable.
  • Strong networking and relationship-building skills to engage with employers and secure internship opportunities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively guide and advise students.
