On the most beautiful college campus in the country, SMU Mustangs are energized by unbridled opportunities – from teaching, learning and research to creativity, performance and athletic endeavor.About the Position:The Assistant Director for Campus Visits will develop and manage the admission visit experience for prospective students and families.  Working as part of the undergraduate recruitment team, this person will create, coordinate, and implement daily visit opportunities that reflect Southern Methodist University's (SMU) message and brand as well as effectively support its enrollment goals.  In addition, The Assistant Director will supervise a team of students who staff the undergraduate admission welcome desk to provide front line customer service to campus visitors.  This person will also have a small recruiting territory.This role is an on-campus, in-person position.Essential Functions:

    Create, coordinate, and implement daily visit opportunities that reflect the University's message and brand as well as effectively support its undergraduate enrollment goals.  Work closely with school-based recruitment offices and other departments on campus who support these opportunities.Hire, train and supervise students including tour guides and welcome desk staff.  Develop effective procedures and tasks to ensure visitors to campus have a positive experience from the time they register to visit through follow-up afterwards.Advise prospective students, parents, and high school counselors on academic and co-curricular options at SMU by often serving as an on-call counselor and managing a small recruitment territory.  This includes making frequent presentations both on and off campus; limited local travel will be required.Develop and coordinate communications and materials for campus visitors mostly through the admission CRM system SLATE.  Provide input into the design of printed materials used for visit programs as well as throughout the undergraduate recruitment process.Provide regular reports on the success and effectiveness of the daily visit opportunities to the Dean and Associate Dean of Admission.  Assess this effectiveness using both quantitative and empirical evidence and make adjustments to the program as necessary.Attend meetings and conferences to stay abreast of Undergraduate Admission and campus visit issues and represent SMU to the broader education community.Support recruitment programs as appropriate and assist with other Enrollment Services areas as needed.


Qualifications
Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree is required.  Three years of work experience is required.Recruiting experience for a four-year residential liberal arts and sciences university/college or a two-year non-profit college is a plus.  A history of supervising students in an office or as an organization advisor is desirable.Familiarity with SMU or other four-year residential universities is a plus.  Preference given to candidate who is able to give presentations in Spanish and converse with applicants and prospects whose first language is Spanish.Candidate must be able to demonstrate knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Outlook. Basic understanding of HTML is preferred.  Computer experience and ability to learn new software is essential.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Must also demonstrate strong written communication skills. A strong customer service orientation is essential.Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems, as well as devise solutions. Must also have strong organizational, planning and time management skills. A strong attention to detail and accuracy are essential.Valid driver’s license and good driving history is required.Events outside the normal workday often take place (e.g., College Fairs, campus recruitment events, meetings of students, staff and tour guides).  These events may be in the evening or on the weekend.Frequent travel is required.  Travel season occurs for approximately three months in the Spring and three months in the Fall.  Other occasional travel may be required both local and regional.This position will be required to coordinate coverage for limited campus visit activities when SMU classes are cancelled or closed for inclement weather.Physical and Environmental Demands:
