Fairfield Residential is looking for an Assistant Controller to join our Construction Management Accounting team. Responsibilities includes assisting with day to day operations, Lender Reporting, Insurance Claim tracking, various analysis and reporting, special projects, and process improvements for this growing segment of our business.

Education/Certificates:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance is required
  • A CPA or advanced degree is a plus

Experience:
  • 10+ years in Accounting with Real Estate or Construction industry experience
  • Prior experience in Construction Loan Draws and job cost accounting
  • Experience in construction accounting software; YARDI experience a plus
  • Experience with process improvement and project management

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
  • Ability to collaborate and solve problems, clarify, and interpret complex information
  • Ability to reconcile and understand an Escrow Closing Statement to validate S&U against Proforma and job budgets
  • Ability to extract pertinent construction data and requirements from various Lender Agreements
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications - advanced excel skills a plus
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced high-volume team environment
  • Strong attention to detail, high accuracy, organized, exemplary team player skills, self-motivated, and deadline driven
  • Ability to prioritize workload with pro-active planning skills
  • Effective verbal and written communications
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and external business associates to promote positive professional working relationships and environments

Essential Duties:
  • Assist with day to day operations of the department and ensure all deadlines are met, providing assistance as needed
  • Assist with ensuring adequate funding requirements for all projects from start of project and throughout project based on the latest information including changes to scope of work and pending budget changes
  • Review and approve various draw packages ensuring adequate funding to meet project needs and ensuring all forms and certifications are completed to meet lender requirements
  • Review and approve monthly fee accruals and other journal entries
  • Analyze, track and report on insurance claims, communicating with insurance assessor, lender, asset manager and project manager, as needed
  • Research and analyze reserve requirements for properties held for sale
  • Assist with management and compliance with all executed agreements and regulatory requirements
  • Review processes and make recommendations for process improvements
  • Work closely with construction management, asset management, investment reporting and property accounting teams
  • Prepare adhoc analysis and reports
  • Participate in various special projects
