This position is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the waterpark. Duties include, but are not limited to, guest safety, in and out of the water, responding to emergencies, that may occur during operation, informing guests of and enforcing waterpark rules, regulations and admission requirements, as well as handling guest concerns and situations. Associates are also responsible for cleanliness of not only their ride/attraction or assigned team/area, but for the waterpark as a whole. This position is also responsible for ensuring Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom's/Cedar Fair's Cornerstone and Best Day initiatives, as well as following all company, divisional and departmental rules and regulations.

 Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least 15 years of age.
  • Ability to complete lifeguard training and meet the standards of the Jeff Ellis & Associates International Lifeguard Training Program. The associate must be able to complete and pass a First Aid & CPR certification, Prerequisite Skill Test that includes a swim of 50 yards using a breast or free style stroke, swimming 10 feet underwater and picking up a diving brick from 5 feet in depth.
  • The associate must also have the ability to learn and complete rescue skills in a working environment, whether that be on land or in the water, as well as learn spinal injury management, all while working in a team environment. Classes are provided by employer.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends and holiday periods to meet business needs.
  • Ability to pass a mandatory (or random) drug test, per Company policy, unless prohibited by state or provincial law.
  • Ability to pass a background check, if 18 years of age or older, which may include, but is not limited to, credit, criminal, DMV, previous employment, education and personal references, per Company policy, unless prohibited by federal, state, or provincial law.

Minimum Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Respond to and take appropriate action to resolve concerns and comments from park guests.
  • Must demonstrate the ability and be able to maintain the 10/20 rule of protection as mandated by the Jeff Ellis International Lifeguard Training Program.
  • Communicate safety rules, regulations and recommendations with guests.
  • Keep supervision/manager informed of situations related to department operation and safety.
  • Monitor and maintain order of guests waiting to ride or use rides/attractions, and check for and enforce all ride rules, restrictions and recommendations.
  • Observe and assist with loading and unloading of guests safely in and out of rides and attractions as needed.
  • Monitor rides and attractions continuously for safety concerns and unusual noises, smells or visual concerns and communicate to appropriate personnel.
  • Monitor and ensure the safety of guests and other associates.
  • Monitor and enforce company, divisional, department and lifeguard rules, regulations, policies and zones of protection, regardless of the team/area that you are assigned to.
  • Operate efficiently within the parameters of an established Emergency Action Plan (EAP).
  • Attend four hours of in-service training sessions each month (one session per week) to maintain lifeguard skills and license.
  • Provides guest service according to Cedar Fair standards when serving the guest or working with subordinates, including initiating guest interactions, answering questions and giving directions.
  • Maintains cleanliness and safety in assigned work area and performs all duties in compliance with Cedar Fair Safety guidelines and requirements and reports all unsafe or unusual conditions to supervision.
  • Meets scheduling availability requirements, including nights, weekends, and holiday periods to meet business needs.
  • Meets Cedar Fair's attendance requirements as outlined in Cedar Fair's attendance policies.
  • Adheres to Cedar Fair's Rules of Conduct including specific costuming and grooming standards as outlined in Employee Guidelines and other park/division specific policies and procedures.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
