Job Description Summary
This position will support the information technology needs of the Pathology Core facilities. The primary assignment will be the maintenance of a complex database that currently facilitates all aspects of the Cores' responsibilities, including tracking clients and their data, enabling billing and collections, managing workflows, recording research publications developed with Core assistance, and planning for new Core services. This position will be a key member of PBR IT team in the development/maintenance of tools needed by core facility directors and technical directors for reporting functions, as well as tools for day-to-day business management. An important secondary function will be to troubleshoot incidental problems as they arise. This position requires extensive knowledge of the LAMP stack with an emphasis on PHP and MySQL, as well as Javascript and basic HTML/CSS. A general understanding of accounting as well as of medical research laboratories is also helpful.

Qualifications
BA/BS in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related discipline, or equivalent academic credentials with technical programming and/or database experience required; 1-2 or more years' experience with database design, programming and/or analysis required; extensive background in practical applications, e.g., familiarity with Oracle 8/9, LAMP, javascript, basic HTML. Familiarity with Integrated Development Environments (e.g. NetBeans, Eclipse) and source code revision control systems (e.g. CVS, Subversion, Git) is helpful. Familiarity with dev/test/prod software release discipline is a plus.
Candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills, be team-oriented and be able to balance multiple projects. This position requires the ability to work independently in terms of database maintenance. The candidate may need to help assess the technological needs of a diverse client base and advise Core Directors regarding technological applications. Thus, the ideal candidate would be able to translate issues regarding appropriate technologies in terms applicable to researchers. This candidate should also have the background to understand the financial side of Core operations, including service center cost recovery, expenditures and budgeting.
