Hours: 28 hr/wk; 4 days/wk; alternating coverage on holidays and covering one weekend day (typical schedule would be Sunday - Wednesday, 8:00 am -4:00 pm)

Hourly Rate: $28.88

Weekly Rate: $808.64

Under the direction of the Vivarium Manager, the Animal Technician performs duties related to the daily care of animals, working with different species of animals and aquatic organisms as assignments dictate.

Duties:

1. Maintain proper levels of food and water for all animals
2. Observes animals daily and records census
3. Report injuries or illness of animals to the Vivarium Manager or Consulting Veterinarian
4. Perform minor medical treatment of animals when needed
5. Changeout and sanitize animal bedding, cages, water bottles and related items.
6. Operate cage washer and sterilizer as required
7. Weaning and sexing of rodent pups.
8. Perform miscellaneous housekeeping, sanitize animal rooms, floors and support areas
9. Light maintenance/troubleshooting of equipment
10. Monitor water quality in aquaria and maintenance of aquarium filters
11. Provide technical assistance, such as restraint, injections, blood withdrawals, and euthanasia or animals.

Qualifications:

Previous animal care and handling experience of laboratory animals, including weaning and sexing of rodents and euthanasia. Note that strong scents are not permitted in the vivarium, including colognes, deodorants, perfumes, smoking, vaping, etc.

Requirements:

• No known allergies to animals
• Ability to lift 50 lbs
• Willing to work shared weekends and holiday duties.
• High school diploma
• AALAS Certified Technician (LAT) certification required * Certified (MVTA) vet-tech may be considered if candidates demonstrate ability to achieve LAT certification within 6 months of hire.
