Position Summary

A unit of the Information Technology Division, the mission of Enterprise Information Systems (EIS) is to provide vision, leadership, strategies and services in support of the success of students, faculty, staff and administration; and contributes to the overall strategic objectives of the university and the Information Technology Division. EIS provides stewardship over a complex technology infrastructure of systems and databases critical to the university's mission and operation, including student information, financial aid, finance, and human resources.

The department of Student Information Systems (SIS), a unit of Enterprise Information Systems (EIS), provides stewardship over an innovative suite of systems and tools in support of the academic mission of the university, including student admissions, enrollment, registration, and student records. SIS provides resources and services to ensure the collection, storage, management, and accessibility of student information is accurate and timely to help facilitate the success of students, faculty, staff and administration.

Under the lead direction of the Interim Senior Manager for Student Information Systems, the incumbent will participate in, and if required lead the design, planning, and implementation of complex projects. He/she will provide consultation and facilitate the analysis and definition of business rules, service levels, and user requirements, and work cross-functionally to solve problems, improve process, and implement changes.

Full-time, permanent (probationary) position. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.

Education and Experience

To enter this classification, a basic foundation of knowledge and skills in applications programming and systems analysis and related programming support functions is a prerequisite. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor's degree, preferably in computer science or business, or equivalent training and applied experience. Foundation knowledge and skills for the Analyst/Programmer, depending on the position assignment, may include working knowledge of a specific industry standard applications programming language and knowledge of standard systems analysis techniques.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ten years (more are preferable) of complex system analysis and hands-on project management experience, preferably in a highly regulated environment (education, healthcare, military, etc.).
  • Experience in managing project for software development and system integration.
  • Experience in application development and project management in higher education or other regulated industries.

Specialized Skills

  • Minimum seven (7) years of business and system analysis and development.
  • Knowledge of and experience with SIMS/R Student Information System and SDSU WebPortal Student Self-Service Portal.
  • Knowledge of and experience with SIMS/R and SDSU WebPortal data architecture and elements.
  • Knowledge of SDSU enrollment business processes, procedures and systems.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources. Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $8,000 per month.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,372 - $10,792 per month.

SDSU Vaccine Policy

In accordance with the California State University systemwide policy, students, faculty, and staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or provide a valid medical or religious exemption in order to access campus. Individuals are considered fully vaccinated for five months after their final dose of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine or for two months after receiving the only dose of a single-dose vaccine. Afterward a COVID-19 booster is required to continue to be considered fully vaccinated.

The individual hired into this role will be required to submit their completed vaccination documentation to the university's secure online health portal prior to beginning work. Individuals with an approved medical or religious exemption on file with the university will be required to participate in SDSU's COVID-19 testing program.
